Where the text on Quran Chat comes from, and under which licences
Every text on this site is quoted from a named source, unchanged, on the terms its owners set. Here are the sources and what we commit to for each.
The Quran text
Uthmani-script text from the Tanzil Project: Tanzil Quran Text (Uthmani, Version 1.1), Copyright (C) 2007-2026 Tanzil Project, licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 3.0. We copy the text verbatim without changing a letter, and show the basmala at the start of each surah on its own line, as in the Mushaf.
The English translation
The translation by Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall, first published in 1930 and in the public domain; text via Tanzil.net.
Tafsir on the verse pages
Every verse page (in Arabic, English and Indonesian) shows texts quoted word for word from the Noble Quran Encyclopedia (QuranEnc.com), each with its source, version number and a link to the verse on QuranEnc:
- Al-Mukhtasar fi Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Tafsir Center for Quranic Studies (Arabic, English and Indonesian).
- Al-Tafsir Al-Muyassar — a committee of scholars, King Fahd Glorious Quran Printing Complex.
- Taysir al-Karim al-Rahman (Tafsir al-Sa’di) — Shaykh Abd al-Rahman ibn Nasir al-Sa’di (Arabic, and its Indonesian translation). Where he explains several verses together, the text appears on the first verse’s page and the others link to it.
- Tafsir al-Jalalayn — Jalal al-Din al-Mahalli and Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti (Dar al-Hadith, Cairo edition), from Quranpedia.net, which makes its data free to use on websites.
- Al-Siraj fi Bayan Gharib al-Quran — word meanings.
- Al-Nafahat al-Makkiyyah — Muhammad ibn Salih al-Shawi.
- Translations: Rowwad Translation Center (English) and Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs (Indonesian).
We follow QuranEnc’s conditions: no editing, adding or deleting; crediting the publisher and the source; stating the version number; following new editions; and no unfitting ads.
Chat answers
No answer is written by AI; every text is quoted word for word from tafsir books. Your question’s text may be sent to an AI provider only to understand what you mean, and WhatsApp voice notes are turned into text the same way. Your name and number are not sent with it. Each answer names the book its text is quoted from.
Hadith
Hadith on the selected-verse pages are quoted from the collections cited (Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Jami‘ at-Tirmidhi) via Sunnah.com, with each hadith’s number and link. We include only authentic narrations and note the grading where relevant. The short English meanings are our own rendering.
Fonts
Verses are set in Amiri Quran; text in Noto Naskh Arabic, IBM Plex Sans Arabic and Figtree; decorative titles in Aref Ruqaa — all under the SIL Open Font License.
Please note
Quran Chat helps with understanding and reflection; it does not issue fatwas. Please consult qualified scholars on matters of Islamic law.
