Surah Al-Mutaffifin (The Defrauding) — Arabic text & English translation
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَا ٱكْتَالُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ يَسْتَوْفُونَ ٢
2. Those who when they take the measure from mankind demand it full,
وَإِذَا كَالُوهُمْ أَو وَّزَنُوهُمْ يُخْسِرُونَ ٣
3. But if they measure unto them or weight for them, they cause them loss.
أَلَا يَظُنُّ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ أَنَّهُم مَّبْعُوثُونَ ٤
4. Do such (men) not consider that they will be raised again
يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلنَّاسُ لِرَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ ٦
6. The day when (all) mankind stand before the Lord of the Worlds?
كَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَٰبَ ٱلْفُجَّارِ لَفِى سِجِّينٍ ٧
7. Nay, but the record of the vile is in Sijjin –
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا سِجِّينٌ ٨
8. Ah! what will convey unto thee what Sijjin is! –
وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ١٠
10. Woe unto the repudiators on that day!
ٱلَّذِينَ يُكَذِّبُونَ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ ١١
11. Those who deny the Day of Judgment
وَمَا يُكَذِّبُ بِهِۦٓ إِلَّا كُلُّ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ ١٢
12. Which none denieth save each criminal transgressor,
إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَٰتُنَا قَالَ أَسَٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ ١٣
13. Who, when thou readest unto him Our revelations, saith: (Mere) fables of the men of old.
كَلَّا ۖ بَلْ ۜ رَانَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ ١٤
14. Nay, but that which they have earned is rust upon their hearts.
كَلَّآ إِنَّهُمْ عَن رَّبِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَّمَحْجُوبُونَ ١٥
15. Nay, but surely on that day they will be covered from (the mercy of) their Lord.
ثُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ لَصَالُوا۟ ٱلْجَحِيمِ ١٦
16. Then lo! they verily will burn in hell,
ثُمَّ يُقَالُ هَٰذَا ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ ١٧
17. And it will be said (unto them): This is that which ye used to deny.
كَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَٰبَ ٱلْأَبْرَارِ لَفِى عِلِّيِّينَ ١٨
18. Nay, but the record of the righteous is in ‘Illiyin –
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا عِلِّيُّونَ ١٩
19. Ah, what will convey unto thee what ‘Illiyin is! –
يَشْهَدُهُ ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ ٢١
21. Attested by those who are brought near (unto their Lord).
إِنَّ ٱلْأَبْرَارَ لَفِى نَعِيمٍ ٢٢
22. Lo! the righteous verily are in delight,
تَعْرِفُ فِى وُجُوهِهِمْ نَضْرَةَ ٱلنَّعِيمِ ٢٤
24. Thou wilt know in their faces the radiance of delight.
يُسْقَوْنَ مِن رَّحِيقٍ مَّخْتُومٍ ٢٥
25. They are given to drink of a pure wine, sealed,
خِتَٰمُهُۥ مِسْكٌ ۚ وَفِى ذَٰلِكَ فَلْيَتَنَافَسِ ٱلْمُتَنَٰفِسُونَ ٢٦
26. Whose seal is musk – for this let (all) those strive who strive for bliss –
عَيْنًا يَشْرَبُ بِهَا ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ ٢٨
28. A spring whence those brought near (to Allah) drink.
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ أَجْرَمُوا۟ كَانُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ يَضْحَكُونَ ٢٩
29. Lo! the guilty used to laugh at those who believed,
وَإِذَا مَرُّوا۟ بِهِمْ يَتَغَامَزُونَ ٣٠
30. And wink one to another when they passed them;
وَإِذَا ٱنقَلَبُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِمُ ٱنقَلَبُوا۟ فَكِهِينَ ٣١
31. And when they returned to their own folk, they returned jesting;
وَإِذَا رَأَوْهُمْ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَضَآلُّونَ ٣٢
32. And when they saw them they said: Lo! these have gone astray.
وَمَآ أُرْسِلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِمْ حَٰفِظِينَ ٣٣
33. Yet they were not sent as guardians over them.
فَٱلْيَوْمَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلْكُفَّارِ يَضْحَكُونَ ٣٤
34. This day it is those who believe who have the laugh of disbelievers,
هَلْ ثُوِّبَ ٱلْكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَفْعَلُونَ ٣٦
36. Are not the disbelievers paid for what they used to do?
