Surah Al-Buruj (The Mansions of the Stars) — Arabic text & English translation

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلْبُرُوجِ ۝١

1. By the heaven, holding mansions of the stars,

85:1Full tafsirAsk the chat

وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْمَوْعُودِ ۝٢

2. And by the Promised Day.

وَشَاهِدٍ وَمَشْهُودٍ ۝٣

3. And by the witness and that whereunto he beareth testimony,

قُتِلَ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْأُخْدُودِ ۝٤

4. (Self-)destroyed were the owners of the ditch

ٱلنَّارِ ذَاتِ ٱلْوَقُودِ ۝٥

5. Of the fuel-fed fire,

إِذْ هُمْ عَلَيْهَا قُعُودٌ ۝٦

6. When they sat by it,

وَهُمْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَفْعَلُونَ بِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ شُهُودٌ ۝٧

7. And were themselves the witnesses of what they did to the believers.

وَمَا نَقَمُوا۟ مِنْهُمْ إِلَّآ أَن يُؤْمِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْحَمِيدِ ۝٨

8. They had naught against them save that they believed in Allah, the Mighty, the Owner of Praise,

ٱلَّذِى لَهُۥ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ شَهِيدٌ ۝٩

9. Him unto Whom belongeth the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth; and Allah is of all things the Witness.

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ فَتَنُوا۟ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَٰتِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَتُوبُوا۟ فَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ ٱلْحَرِيقِ ۝١٠

10. Lo! they who persecute believing men and believing women and repent not, theirs verily will be the doom of hell, and theirs the doom of burning.

85:10Full tafsirAsk the chat

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ لَهُمْ جَنَّٰتٌ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْكَبِيرُ ۝١١

11. Lo! those who believe and do good works, theirs will be Gardens underneath which rivers flow. That is the Great Success.

إِنَّ بَطْشَ رَبِّكَ لَشَدِيدٌ ۝١٢

12. Lo! the punishment of thy Lord is stern.

إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ يُبْدِئُ وَيُعِيدُ ۝١٣

13. Lo! He it is Who produceth, then reproduceth,

وَهُوَ ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلْوَدُودُ ۝١٤

14. And He is the Forgiving, the Loving,

ذُو ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱلْمَجِيدُ ۝١٥

15. Lord of the Throne of Glory,

فَعَّالٌ لِّمَا يُرِيدُ ۝١٦

16. Doer of what He will.

هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلْجُنُودِ ۝١٧

17. Hath there come unto thee the story of the hosts

فِرْعَوْنَ وَثَمُودَ ۝١٨

18. Of Pharaoh and (the tribe of) Thamud?

بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فِى تَكْذِيبٍ ۝١٩

19. Nay, but those who disbelieve live in denial

وَٱللَّهُ مِن وَرَآئِهِم مُّحِيطٌۢ ۝٢٠

20. And Allah, all unseen, surroundeth them.

بَلْ هُوَ قُرْءَانٌ مَّجِيدٌ ۝٢١

21. Nay, but it is a glorious Qur’an.

فِى لَوْحٍ مَّحْفُوظٍۭ ۝٢٢

22. On a guarded tablet.
