Surah At-Tariq (The Nightcommer) — Arabic text & English translation

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلطَّارِقِ ۝١

1. By the heaven and the Morning Star

86:1Full tafsirAsk the chat

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلطَّارِقُ ۝٢

2. – Ah, what will tell thee what the Morning Star is!

ٱلنَّجْمُ ٱلثَّاقِبُ ۝٣

3. – The piercing Star!

86:3Full tafsirAsk the chat

إِن كُلُّ نَفْسٍ لَّمَّا عَلَيْهَا حَافِظٌ ۝٤

4. No human soul but hath a guardian over it.

86:4Full tafsirAsk the chat

فَلْيَنظُرِ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ ۝٥

5. So let man consider from what he is created.

86:5Full tafsirAsk the chat

خُلِقَ مِن مَّآءٍ دَافِقٍ ۝٦

6. He is created from a gushing fluid

يَخْرُجُ مِنۢ بَيْنِ ٱلصُّلْبِ وَٱلتَّرَآئِبِ ۝٧

7. That issued from between the loins and ribs.

إِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ رَجْعِهِۦ لَقَادِرٌ ۝٨

8. Lo! He verily is Able to return him (unto life)

يَوْمَ تُبْلَى ٱلسَّرَآئِرُ ۝٩

9. On the day when hidden thoughts shall be searched out.

فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن قُوَّةٍ وَلَا نَاصِرٍ ۝١٠

10. Then will he have no might nor any helper.

86:10Full tafsirAsk the chat

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلرَّجْعِ ۝١١

11. By the heaven which giveth the returning rain,

86:11Full tafsirAsk the chat

وَٱلْأَرْضِ ذَاتِ ٱلصَّدْعِ ۝١٢

12. And the earth which splitteth (with the growth of trees and plants)

86:12Full tafsirAsk the chat

إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوْلٌ فَصْلٌ ۝١٣

13. Lo! this (Qur’an) is a conclusive word,

وَمَا هُوَ بِٱلْهَزْلِ ۝١٤

14. It is no pleasantry.

86:14Full tafsirAsk the chat

إِنَّهُمْ يَكِيدُونَ كَيْدًا ۝١٥

15. Lo! they plot a plot (against thee, O Muhammad)

وَأَكِيدُ كَيْدًا ۝١٦

16. And I plot a plot (against them).

فَمَهِّلِ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ أَمْهِلْهُمْ رُوَيْدًۢا ۝١٧

17. So give a respite to the disbelievers. Deal thou gently with them for a while.
