Surah Al-Ghashiyah (The Overwhelming) — Arabic text & English translation
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلْغَٰشِيَةِ ١
1. Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming?
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَٰشِعَةٌ ٢
2. On that day (many) faces will be downcast,
لَّيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِن ضَرِيعٍ ٦
6. No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit
لَّا يُسْمِنُ وَلَا يُغْنِى مِن جُوعٍ ٧
7. Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger.
أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى ٱلْإِبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْ ١٧
17. Will they not regard the camels, how they are created?
وَإِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ كَيْفَ رُفِعَتْ ١٨
18. And the heaven, how it is raised?
وَإِلَى ٱلْجِبَالِ كَيْفَ نُصِبَتْ ١٩
19. And the hills, how they are set up?
وَإِلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ كَيْفَ سُطِحَتْ ٢٠
20. And the earth, how it is spread?
فَذَكِّرْ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٌ ٢١
21. Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer,
لَّسْتَ عَلَيْهِم بِمُصَيْطِرٍ ٢٢
22. Thou art not at all a warder over them.
إِلَّا مَن تَوَلَّىٰ وَكَفَرَ ٢٣
23. But whoso is averse and disbelieveth,
فَيُعَذِّبُهُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْعَذَابَ ٱلْأَكْبَرَ ٢٤
24. Allah will punish him with direst punishment.
